Electrode Paste

Product Description

Electrode paste, also known as Söderberg electrode paste or self-baking electrode, is a conductive carbon material supplied to electric furnaces including ferroalloy furnaces, calcium carbide furnaces, and submerged arc furnaces . It is a mixture of carbon-based materials—primarily electrically calcined anthracite, graphite, petroleum coke, and coal-tar pitch binder—formed into cylinders, briquettes, or blocks .

The unique characteristic of electrode paste is that it forms the electrode in situ during furnace operation. As the paste descends in the steel casing, furnace heat gradually bakes it into a solid carbon electrode with excellent conductivity and high-temperature resistance . This self-baking process ensures continuous electrode supply matched to consumption rates.
